The Open Water Diver course is the Learn To Dive program for beginners qualifying you to 18 meters.

The Certification is recognised worldwide and is your ticket to discover what the underwater world has to offer!

The course is done over 4 days either Monday through Thursday or Thursday Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Who is this course for?

This course is for someone who wants to become certified to dive with a buddy.

Previous SCUBA experience isn’t needed, you need to be able to swim 200m and float for 10min.

You must be medically fit to dive.

The minimum age is 10 years old.

What you’ll learn

You’ll start with some elearning. The Open Water DIver elearning makes it easy to fit scuba lessons into a busy schedule. Learn about scuba diving principles and terminology whenever, wherever it's convenient for you. It's your course on your time. Study offline, or online using a computer or mobile device. There are five sections with reviews, quizzes and a final exam.

Next, you’ll learn lots of practical skills like setting up fitting your SCUBA gear, clearing your mask and regulator, becoming weightless underwater, and emergency skills. You’ll master these in shallow water before moving on to deeper dives in the sea.

You’ll make 4 dives during your course where you’ll show your instructor that you have mastered the key skills and demonstrate that you are able to conduct your dives safely.

The equipment you’ll use

You’ll learn about and use full SCUBA equipment during your course. Your instructor will guide you through what features to consider when buying your own equipment. Equipment is provided for your training, you have the option of buying your own mask and snorkel to keep.

FAQs

  • The Open Water Dive course is your first certification course. You don’t need any previous diving experience to join this course.

  • Once you have signed up you will be sent a digital learning package and some forms to complete online. The training will be a mix of theory, workshops, shallow water sessions as well as 4 dives at Bouley bay.

  • The Open Water Diver course is designed to make it accessible to everyone with interactive elearning. Diving is practical and the instructors will apply the theory in a practical way for all to understand. And of course, the staff are always here to explain any theory you don’t quite understand for you so that you will become a good diver.

  • Your course will be 4 days.

    We have two options you can choose from both resulting in the same qualification.

    Option 1 is the weekday option where your course will run Monday through Thursday.

    Option 2 is where your course will run Thursday and Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday.

  • Reasonably comfortable swimming, swim for 200m and float for 10 mins.

    Be at least 10 years of age.

    Be medically fit to dive, this medical form will have to be completed before in water training. You may need a doctor's written signed approval before diving.

  • If you are 12 or over you can dive to 18 meters worldwide. For under 10-11 year olds you can dive to 12 meters worldwide.

  • Your course locations will likely be:

    Bouley Bay on the first day.

    Langford swimming pool on the second day.

    Bouley Bay on the third and fourth day.

    We may have to change location due to weather or other considerations, we will advise if this is the case.

  • Included in you course:

    PADI e-learning, you’ll get e-learning to complete and keep.

    All processing fees for your PADI license.

    Use of standard dive equipment during your course. You can buy your own mask and snorkel to use during the course if you like.

  • Refreshments, there is a cafe at Bouley Bay, and we also sell snacks and drinks.

    Extra sessions, if you do not meet the performance requirements for a dive you may have to repeat that session before progressing with the course.

    Extra gear such as a dry suit.

  • Your certification will be an e-card to help reduce plastic waste. To access that download the PADI app, this will also be your logbook. Info can be found here.
